Howard Shernoff was born in California and raised on insurance bad faith law. After graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of California Santa Cruz, Howard spent many years working in the Russian Federation and areas of the former Soviet Union. An accomplished writer, editor and translator, Howard practices insurance bad faith law and business litigation in the Beverly Hills office of SBEB.
On behalf of his clients, Howard Shernoff has successfully litigated cases against numerous major insurance companies including Allstate (Lincoln Benefit Life), American General, Americo, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Colonial Penn, Fidelity, Fireman's Fund, Metropolitan Life, Mutual of Omaha and Stonebridge.
Mr. Shernoff currently is litigating against insurers including American Fire and Casualty, Celtic Insurance Company, Farmers, John Hancock, Lincoln National Life, New York Life, Ohio National, Progressive, Security Life of Denver and Western Reserve Life. Representative Cases
- Kawakita v. Blue Shield, (appellate counsel) argued for and won appellate opinion expanding statute of limitations to three years in certain health and disability cases.
- Nickerson v. Stonebridge (trial co-counsel), won $19 million jury verdict for paraplegic Marine whose insurance company overruled his treating doctor on the medical necessity of his hospital stay.
