About disability benefits for a disabled child.
Disability applications are often unfairly denied. If you have been denied disability benefits for your disabled child, you may need the help of an attorney to get your application approved.

My child is disabled. Can I get Social Security disability benefits for my disabled child?

Social Security Administration defines a child as being disabled when both of the following conditions are met:

  1. The child must have a physical or mental condition(s) that very seriously limits his or her activities; and

  2. The condition(s) must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least 1 year or result in death.

Social Security disability benefits are decided by state agencies. When you apply, you will be required to provide information to prove your child has a disability.  The state may ask for medical information and records, school records, as well as additional information from other people who know the child and can attest that the child has a disability.
