Stern Family Settles Suit against Generali

The family of a wealthy Czech wine maker reached a confidential settlement Monday with Italian insurance company Assicurazioni Generali. Adolf Stern, who along with other family members, had been trying to collect on insurance policies since 1945.Lisa Stern, a relative of the family and co-counsel to attorney William Shernoff said, "It's gratifying that after a long, hard battle, the members of this family can have a small measure of justice."

Shernoff, who represented the family, referred to the settlement as a landmark agreement, stated that the settlement is a major breakthrough for the Holocaust insurance cases, especially because the Stern case was the lead case of eight filed against Generali by Shernoff.
