Extended Deadline for Unumprovident Policyholders Rapidly Approaching

Frank N. Darras Reminds Claimants Of June 30th Deadline

Ontario, Calif., April 18, 2006-– Frank N. Darras, the nation’s leading disability and long term care insurance lawyer reminds policyholders with Unum Life Insurance Co. of America, UnumProvident (NYSE:UNM-News), Paul Revere Life Insurance Co., Unum National Insurance Co., and Provident Life and Accident Insurance Co., whose claims were denied between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 1999 and claimants terminated or denied on or after January 1, 2000 who were not sent a reassessment notice from the Company that they now have until June 30, 2006 to make their request to participate.

“Last year, we started a campaign to get the word out to denied policyholders,” says Darras. “The reassessment process is complicated by different time limits affecting the 2000-2004 denials and the 1997-1999 denials so we are doing everything we can to spread the reassessment word and remind policyholders of the timing requirements so those truly disabled are not left behind.”

The UnumProvident web site, spells out the extension. Certain claimants with claims terminated or denied between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 1999 may request to have their claims reassessed. In addition, certain claimants with claims terminated or denied on or after January 1, 2000 who were not sent a reassessment notice from the Company may also request to participate if they dispute the Company's denial or termination. UnumProvident has agreed to extend the deadline for these requests to June 30, 2006.

The Company has agreed to keep all of the new reassessment claim objectives in place after the reassessment process concludes December 31, 2006. These new objectives will create a good faith checklist so claim personnel can continue to improve their good faith handling on all UnumProvident disability claims.

“We are privileged to be helping claimants in every state that has signed on, get hard answers to tough reassessment questions,” says Darras.
